The Health Information Technology, A. A. S. curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation in health information management. The first year provides students an introduction to foundational courses such as medical terminology, electronic health records, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic and procedural coding, reimbursement methodologies, and business math. Year two builds on this foundation by providing additional concentration of medical coding through intermediate and advanced courses. The curriculum in the program helps students develop the entry-level skills needed in health information management, collection and dissemination of health data, revenue cycle and reimbursement procedures, fraud and abuse, confidentiality, privacy, medical coding, information governance, and statistical outcomes.
Upon completion of the program students will meet eligibility requirements to sit for the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) and Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification exams.
