Access & Affordability

Accessibility and affordability for all students is a priority at WVNCC. By ensuring that required course materials are readily available on day one, it eliminates financial barriers that may otherwise hinder learning. Through strategic partnerships and digital resources, we make education accessible to every student, fostering an environment where everyone can thrive.

Convenience & Flexibility

WVNCC students no longer have to stress about textbook prices or worry about falling behind as they shop for course materials and wait for deliveries during the busy start of the semester. They are ready and waiting. With digital resources, students have the freedom to use materials anytime, anywhere, on preferred devices. Study at your own pace and adapt your learning to fit your schedule.

Success from Day One

Success starts from day one for WVNCC students. When students have immediate access to all their course materials, they can engage with the subject matter right from the beginning. This not only enhances comprehension but also promotes active participation in class discussions and assignments. Early engagement sets the stage for academic success throughout the semester.

Sustainability

Our commitment to WVNCC students extends beyond academics; it also champions sustainability. By reducing the need for printed textbooks and their associated shipping impact, we contribute to a greener future. Moving digital not only saves resources but also aligns with our responsibility to protect the planet. Together, we're making education more sustainable and eco-friendly.

Student FAQs

What is equitable access?
A program where the school automatically provides students with the course materials they need prior to the first day of class. Students no longer need to take the time or effort to search for the textbooks they need, leaving time to concentrate on their studies and community life.

Why does the school feel this program will benefit students?
This program is a response to the increasing number of students who lack access to required course material due to cost. This program makes getting textbooks easier on students, which will ultimately improve their success.

How much will this program cost?
The cost is calculated on a per credit hour amount, regardless of how much each individual textbook would cost if you purchased separately. The actual cost will depend on which books/course materials are adopted each year by faculty.

How do students benefit from paying the same textbook cost, regardless of major?
All students pay the same rate for tuition, fees, and health insurance, regardless of major, but financial inequity has remained when it comes to textbooks and other course materials costs. By modeling the textbook charge after other costs of attendance, Equitable Access will reduce this financial inequity so that every student has access to the same academic opportunities, regardless of the field in which they choose to study.

Can I opt out of Equitable Access?
Yes. However, if you choose to opt out you will need to purchase your textbooks at current retail or resale prices either by ordering from the online bookstore or from an outlet of your choice. You can also easily opt back in if you change your mind.

If I choose not to participate, how do I opt out?
We understand this program may not meet the needs of every student. If you do not wish to participate in the program, you will need to opt-out every semester. The opt-out page link becomes available when the term is active and you have registered for classes. You can also easily opt back in if you change your mind.

Can I choose to participate for some classes but not others?
No, this program is designed to be an all-in or all-out solution to bring affordability to campus.

What if I need an accommodation due to a disability?
We are committed to providing accessible material, any student with needs different than those adopted by faculty can automatically be provided.

Will I be able to get physical or electronic copies of my materials?
Required course material is provided in the format requested by the faculty. Your bundle could have a mix of physical and digital materials depending on the adopted format.
