WVNCC Launches New Pre-engineering Degree
Posted 08/08/22West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) is launching a new Associate in Science Degree in Pre-engineering this fall semester. Students will complete general education and preliminary math and science courses at Northern that transfer into an engineering baccalaureate program.
This pre-engineering degree is designed to prepare engineering students by building foundational engineering skills. Students will apply principles of engineering, science, and mathematics to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems. Along with calculus, differential equations and calculus-based physics, the curriculum will include Introduction to Engineering Applications and Engineering Problem Solving I & II. Students will also work closely with a Northern advisor to select electives that best match the type of engineering they wish to pursue and the institution where they plan to transfer.
“This degree provides local students pursuing a career in engineering with a fantastic opportunity,” commented WVNCC President Dan Mosser. “WVNCC provides core classes like chemistry, calculus, statistics, and more for a fraction of the cost of attending a four-year university. Engineering majors who complete their first two years at Northern will save tens of thousands of dollars on their college education. We take great pride in our students achieving their dreams without compiling college debt.”
The pre-engineering degree will be offered this fall semester, which starts August 29, 2022. Interested individuals can obtain further information by scheduling an appointment with an advisor at 304-214-8838 or by visiting our service centers on the Wheeling, Weirton, or New Martinsville campuses.
