West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) has received a prestigious marketing award from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR) at its recent national conference in San Antonio. WVNCC was awarded a Silver Paragon for its Lunch & Learn Poster, No Stigma Attached, which was designed by WVNCC Graphic Designer and McMechen resident, Rita Lyons.

“I was very humbled to be awarded a Silver Paragon from NCMPR,” commented Lyons. “It is very rewarding to be able to creatively communicate to the students of WVNCC. I am grateful to Northern for the opportunity and to NCMPR for their continual recognition of the great work marketing professionals are doing at community colleges.”

NCMPR is a professional organization exclusively for marketing & public relations professionals at community colleges. This year’s Paragon Awards yielded 1,939 entries from 262 community colleges across the U.S. It is the only national competition of its kind that honors excellence among marketing & PR professionals at two-year colleges. WVNCC was the only community college in the state of West Virginia to receive a Paragon this year.

“We are extremely proud of Rita and the entire Marketing Department at the College,” added WVNCC Interim President, Mike Koon. “Rita is very talented and more than deserving of this honor.”

Lyons is a 2012 cum laude graduate of Concord University with Bachelor of Arts Degree in advertising/graphic design. She has worked at WVNCC for four years. The award is Lyons’ second Paragon and the college’s fourth overall.
