B&O Collection
The Alumni’s collection of B&O memorabilia is cataloged in an electronic database with a total of nearly five thousand items. While the collection includes some hardware, most are photographs or paper records, books, etc. All has been preserved, utilizing standard museum methods and is kept in a secured storage area.
A central part of this collection includes nearly two hundred historic photographs taken by renowned train photographer, John J. Young. Young took photos of trains in and around the Wheeling area in the 1940s and 1950s. His donation to the Alumni Association helped to establish a permanent record of fading scenes that, without these photographic records of that era, would be lost forever.
For the past fifteen years, the Museum Committee has organized exhibits of much of the B&O history in the Wheeling area
A permanent display case has recently been installed in the remodeled lobby area of the B&O Building and is devoted entirely to the B&O Collection. Smaller display cases with B&O items are also present in the auditorium of the building.
