Emergency Assistance Application and Guidelines
DESCRIPTION
The West Virginia Northern Community College Foundation Emergency Assistance Fund was established to help students facing unforeseen financial emergencies that could otherwise prevent them from continuing their education at WVNCC. Please note, this is NOT Financial Aid, is NOT guaranteed, and is NOT an entitlement.
The mission of the WVNCC Foundation is to seek, receive, and manage private funds to enhance the College’s capabilities in institutional development, professional development, capital facilities and equipment, and financial assistance to students. Operating independently of the College, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To qualify for assistance, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a WVNCC student who has completed at least one semester, is currently registered for at least 6 credits, and is in good academic standing.
- Demonstrate a current financial need, as determined by the committee, and provide documentation of the situation. A federal aid application may be considered, but it will not be the only factor.
- Obtain a referral from a WVNCC faculty member, financial aid, and/or counselor.
- Be determined to be making academic progress by the Financial Aid and Registrar’s Office.
- Sign a Statement of Understanding and Confidentiality form.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Students must submit:
- A completed application form.
- Professional documentation of the financial emergency (if applicable).
- A letter from the student outlining their hardship and request.
- At least one reference letter from a WVNCC faculty member, financial aid officer, or counselor.
SELECTION PROCESS
Applications are reviewed by the WVNCC Foundation Emergency Assistance Fund Committee, which includes a WVNCC employee, a foundation board member, and the Executive Director of the Foundation (who serves as chair). The committee will attempt to make decisions within three days of receiving an application. The Executive Director or a designated Foundation staff member will execute the final expenditures.

Maximum expenditures from this fund are $10,000 per year.
