WVNCC to host international market on March 10
Posted 02/26/20THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. WE WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN IT WILL BE RESCHEDULED.
West Virginia Northern Community College (WVNCC) will be hosting an international market on Tuesday, March 10, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on their Wheeling Campus. The marketplace, which is open to the public, will feature jewelry, clothing, accessories, snacks and more from Global Mamas, a fair trade organization in Ghana.
Founded in 2003, Global Mamas supports the sustainable development of women artisans in Ghana by producing and exporting fair trade products. The Global Mamas are mothers, wives, grandmothers, sisters, talented entrepreneurs and leaders in their communities. There are nearly 350 producers from seven different communities in the Global Mamas network working together for the prosperity of African women and their families. They define prosperity as going beyond financial well-being to include happiness and good health. Being able to do the work they love empowers women to develop financial independence leading to greater happiness. Global Mamas allows women to escape the “feminization of poverty” by supporting their families, sending their children to school, improving their health, and saving for the future.
Attendees will have the opportunity to sample snacks at no charge and purchase unique, handcrafted products of the highest quality. For more information, please contact the WVNCC Academic Support Center (ASC) at asc@wvncc.edu or 304-214-8923.
